Near - wall damping in model predictions of separated flows

چکیده

Data from the near-wall region of an attached and a separated turbulent boundary layer are used for the development of near-wall damping functions utilized in turbulence modelling. The model considered is an explicit algebraic Rey-nolds stress model. The data are taken from two direct numerical simulations. The turbulent boundary layer equation is analyzed in order to extend the validity of existing wall damping functions to turbulent boundary layers under severe adverse pressure gradients.

Overview of Direct Numerical Simulation of Particle Entrainment in Turbulent Flows

An overview of removal and re-entrainment of particles in turbulent flows is presented. The procedure for the direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the Navier-Stokes equation via a pseudospectral method for simulating the instantaneous fluid velocity field is described. Particle removal mechanisms in turbulent flows in a duct are examined and effects of the near-wall coherent eddies on the parti...

Study of Parameters Affecting Separation Bubble Size in High Speed Flows using k-ω Turbulence Model

Shock waves generated at different parts of vehicle interact with the boundary layer over the surface at high Mach flows. The adverse pressure gradient across strong shock wave causes the flow to separate and peak loads are generated at separation and reattachment points. The size of separation bubble in the shock boundary layer interaction flows depends on various parameters. Reynolds-averaged...

Model- and Full-Scale URANS Simulations of Athena Resistance, Powering, Seakeeping, and 5415 Maneuvering

This study demonstrates the versatility of a two-point, multilayer wall function in computing modeland full-scale ship flows with wall roughness and pressure gradient effects. The wall-function model is validated for smooth flat-plate flows at Reynolds numbers up to 10, and it is applied to the Athena R/V for resistance, propulsion, and seakeeping calculations and to fully appended DTMB 5415 fo...

Numerical Predictions of Turbulent Mixed Convection Heat Transfer to Supercritical Fluids Using Various Low Reynolds Number k-e Turbulence Models

There are a number of systems in which supercritical cryogenic fluids are used as coolants or propellant fluids. In some modern military aircraft, the fuel is pressurized above its critical point and used as a coolant to remove heat from the aircraft engine. Accurate prediction of heat transfer coefficients to turbulent flows of supercritical fluids is essential in design of such systems. One o...

Newtonian and Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Simulation after Arterial Stenosis- Steady State and Pulsatile Approaches

Arterial stenosis, for example Atherosclerosis, is one of the most serious forms of arterial disease in the formation of which hemodynamic factors play a significant role. In the present study, a 3-D rigid carotid artery with axisymmetric stenosis with 75% reduction in cross-sectional area is considered. Laminar blood flow is assumed to have both Newtonian and non-Newtonian behavior (generalize...
